Efficiently monitor your spending with software puts all of your accounts in one place, so they're easy to keep track of.

Features:

  • Group Multiple Accounts Together
  • Link to Bank
  • Tax Help

Description:

Use it if: You’re willing to spend a little money to hopefully save a lot of money and time you would otherwise have to spend budgeting manually. Banktivity has features that give you more input in how your spending is organized, like tags, which let you group multiple different kinds of spending together. For example, if you wanted to see how much you spent on one trip, you could tag all of the food, travel, and lodging purchases you made on that trip with the same hashtag. Your purchases can also be easily edited and sync between devices. The most recent update added Envelope Budgeting, support for irregular intervals in budgets, tags and improved stability and performance.

Interview with Ian Gillespie, president of IGG Software

OppLoans: What benefits does Banktivity provide your users?

Ian: Banktivity helps our customers control spending, build savings, and plan for the future. By aggregating all of your accounts (think checking, savings, credit cards, loans, investments, etc.) in one place it is really easy to budget.

OppLoans: What features are you most proud of?

Ian: I think our team did a great job implementing some of the new features in Banktivity 6. For example, our workspaces feature is something that has never been done before in an app and is a real productivity booster. I’m also very proud of our transaction editor. Now when editing existing transactions or entering new ones the experience is smoother, faster and more intuitive. Of course, I’m also proud of our implementation of tags. This was a feature our customers have wanted for a long time.

OppLoans: What’s the story behind the creation of Banktivity?

Ian: Banktivity is about 12 years old now and it started as just a small side project. I originally wrote it because I didn’t like Quicken for Mac. After using it myself for quite a while, I eventually developed it enough to the level of MVP (minimum viable product). Since then it has evolved considerably and each new version has been guided by my passion and the mission of our company: to help people with their finances through software and education. (You can also read more about the store of IGG here!)

OppLoans: Are there any upcoming features or releases you’d like our readers to be aware of?

Ian: We don’t have any features we are ready to talk about publicly yet, but rest assured, we are busy working on some exciting stuff!
